Children's home

KonsueyThe story of this chlid is made from a composite of children at Baan Unrak to protect their identities.

This child's name is Kon Suey

She was tested HIV positive just as her brother was. He died when he was seven.

Kon Suey, along with her mother and brother, tested positive for HIV when she was just a baby. Her father died from AIDS before she was born and her seven-year-old brother died when she was just a small infant. Faced with the enormous challenge of providing medical care for both herself and her daughter and living with the stigma of being a single mother with HIV, Kon Suey's mother sold her daughter for 500 baht and fled Sangkhlaburi. For the next few months, Kon Suey was sold from family to family, each of which could not or would not care for a child diagnosed with HIV. When she was six months old, she was brought to Baan Unrak where her luck would finally turn around.
Here she received the right medication and she gets the care and affection she needs.

After spending a year at the House of Joy, Kon Suey was tested again for HIV. However, this test showed something incredible: her results tested negative for the virus. As it turned out, her first test results were incorrect. But despite this incredible turn of events, it was clear that Kon Suey suffered from another serious illness. But with the proper diagnoses, Baan Unrak was able to provide the medication and treatment she needed.

Now, Kon Suey is a bright and joyful eleven-year-old girl who loves school and playing with her friends. Luckily for Kon Suey and everyone else at the home, we don't have to guess what course her life would have taken. Instead, we can rest assured knowing that Kon Suey, and the many other children at Baan Unrak who have similar stories, is finally living a life that every child deserves.
