A Stitch for the Earth: A Workshop of Care and Change

We recently had the great fortune to host a workshop for our girls, led by a group of students from a Steiner education program. Waldorf Steiner’s vision is truly inspiring—not only does it educate children holistically, but it also brings parents together to engage in meaningful work for the community and to respond to the global ecological crisis.
While their children were volunteering at our Ton Rak School, their wonderful mothers visited our children’s home. They brought with them not just materials and ideas, but also a spirit of unity and transformation. Many revolutions begin quietly, in humble homes, with housewives and daughters who decide to do things differently. This was one of those moments.
The call to reduce waste and live more naturally came, not from government campaigns or large organizations, but from the hearts of these dedicated mothers. They began a campaign to reduce waste starting from something deeply personal—our monthly menstrual cycle. Together with our girls, they worked to create reusable sanitary napkins using needle and thread, recycled fabric, and special absorbent and leak-proof materials.
This is just the beginning—but a powerful one. It reminds us that this is not only a practical solution, but a meaningful revolution. It is a stand against the culture of convenience, of use-and-throw-away. Instead, it is a call to create, to reuse, to care.
This shift in perspective speaks volumes. It tells us that we care—about ourselves, about society, and about the environment. We are all mothers in spirit—nurturing, giving life, sustaining what is precious.
With their own hands, our girls sewed their first handmade sanitary napkins. Each stitch is a testimony—a promise to be instruments of care, love, and responsibility. It is a revolution that begins not in noise, but in quiet acts of compassion. It is the revolution of nurturing. Of shifting from waste to wisdom. From consuming to creating. From throwing away to sustaining life.
Let us carry this spirit forward. With love,
The Baan Unrak Team 💛
