We would like to give a special thanks to our new partner, GlobalGiving, who has given us hope and kept us persevering in our efforts to rebuild some of the most vulnerable and impoverished communities in Myanmar. The unwavering support of our partners from around the world keeps us strong and allows us to continue giving back to the community.
As our relief efforts continue, our partners on the ground – Green Island team identified the most affected communities in Mandalay were in Maha Aung Myae and Chanmyatharzi. Families of Maha Aung Myae not only lost their homes to the earthquake but also to a devastating fire. The map below shows a clear picture of the location of these two townships in Mandalay.

With the support of GlobalGiving, we successfully completed the construction of four homes in Maha Aung Myae. Thanks to their continued sponsorship, we are now rebuilding a shower room at the temple of Khamwekhome and repairing damages in the schools. These ongoing works are fully funded by GlobalGiving. Despite the challenging weather, construction continues—and the need is more urgent than ever, as many families are still without safe shelter from the persistent rain.
The construction of the shower room at the temple in Khamwekhome, located in Maha Aung Myae, is especially important. This temple serves as the main water source for the entire community—a place where many people come not only to shower but also to wash their clothes. Water is life, and for many in the area, this temple is essential to their daily survival. Our volunteers have expressed strong concerns and identified this site as a critical hub for the community. They are urging that the work proceed swiftly and safely to provide this vital service as soon as possible
Some time ago, we supported the children of Maha Aung Myae and Chanmyatharzi by providing school uniforms and supplies, and we also pledged to repair the damaged classrooms. Our goal was to ease the fears of parents—fears that had led many to make the difficult decision not to send their children to school. Today, the school repairs are well underway, and we are overjoyed that soon the children will be able to attend classes regularly, without having to rotate in shifts due to the lack of usable classrooms. Children are our hope for the future, and every child deserves the opportunity to go to school, no matter the circumstances
Even with the support of our new partner, there is still much to rebuild in the townships of Maha Aung Myae and Chanmyatharzi.
Our volunteers visited both areas and conducted surveys to identify the homes of the most vulnerable individuals. They carried out this work tirelessly, often in the rain, to ensure they gathered the necessary information and could determine how many homes we should rebuild. Their dedication and hard work continue to inspire us.
Many vulnerable individuals were identified in the townships, and according to the survey, we identified 51 homes in Maha Aung Myae and 17 homes in Chanmyatharzi.
The demographics are as follows:
51 homes in Maha Aung Myae

17 homes in Chanmyatharzi

The number of elderly individuals and single mothers with infants raised concerns, and we desperately need to help these families build their homes.
We continue to need support to help these communities. Additional funding is urgently required to build the remaining 68 homes for vulnerable individuals affected by the crisis.
Each home costs approximately $1,600 and includes a metal roof, window, and front door. Toilets are not included, as the locals skillfully construct their own simple, rudimentary dry toilets. Though basic, these toilets are effective and well adapted to their way of life.
We are doing our best to provide a safe and secure shelter to help them withstand the upcoming stormy months.
As we continue our work, we need even more support. There is still so much to do, and the people need us now more than ever
What we urgently need:

Total needed: $108,800
