On April 12, 2025, AMURT/L launched a powerful humanitarian relief mission in Myanmar, bringing much-needed support to communities in urgent need. In collaboration with The Green Island Team, we delivered 1,000 long-lasting food packages and distributed 400 sacks of rice to 400 households. This mission was driven by tireless devotion, local cooperation, and deep compassion.

Behind the Mission: A Story of Commitment and Love

The Green Island Team began their journey in the early hours of the morning, departing at 3:30 a.m. Their energy and sense of purpose were deeply moving. But the preparation started long before that. On the evening of April 11, after a full day of teaching, Sister Cirasmita was still out in Yangon at 5 p.m., personally collecting donations from well-wishers. Back at her school, teachers and students worked hand-in-hand, staying late into the night to prepare the relief packages.

Each food package included six varieties of traditional, nutrient-rich dishes—prepared with care to last for days—and paired with rice, enough to feed a family for at least a week. The food was made with love and rooted in local culinary tradition, ensuring both nourishment and familiarity during these difficult times.

A Team of True Sacrifice

One of the most touching aspects of this mission was the total dedication shown by our team. They did not claim any expenses for transportation, vehicle rentals, or even meals during the entire journey. Every cost was covered from their own pockets, driven purely by love and compassion for those suffering. Their silent sacrifice, carried without complaint, spoke volumes. It is this spirit of selflessness that made this relief mission so deeply meaningful.

Entering a Land of Pain—and Hope

The team arrived at the destination at 2:00 p.m., where they were met with a devastating reality. Many families had yet to find shelter. Some were living on the roadside; others had built temporary homes using tarpaulin sheets on the remnants of their old houses. With the rainy season fast approaching and daily tremors still being felt, the sense of urgency was overwhelming.

Our team was heartbroken, yet unwavering. They immediately began connecting with the people—listening, understanding, and recording their needs. The sense of solidarity was immediate. The presence of compassionate visitors brought comfort and a small spark of hope in a time of uncertainty.

A Mission Guided by Kindness

Throughout the journey, our team was supported by many local individuals from the regions of Mandalay and Singuin. Their kindness, strength, and deep sense of care were vital. They helped us identify the most affected areas and ensured we could bring the supplies directly to the people in need. Their unwavering assistance allowed us to act quickly, efficiently, and with sensitivity.

The strength of this mission came from unity—people coming together across regions and roles, trusting each other, and working for a common good.

Where the Help Reached

We reached and directly supported two severely affected villages:

  • Kyauktar

  • Thar Leswar, a predominantly Muslim village

Together, we were able to deliver 1,000 food packages and 400 sacks of rice to 400 households, bringing sustenance and hope.

A Message of Hope

This mission has shown us that the most powerful relief often comes not from outside, but from within. The people of Myanmar are strong, generous, and full of heart. The trust they placed in us, and the help they offered along the way, made this mission not only possible, but deeply meaningful.

With every package of food, every shared word, and every smile, we witnessed a quiet strength rising in the face of hardship. It is this spirit that will carry Myanmar forward.
